Bond no. 9 Astor Place ~ new fragrance

Next up from Bond no. 9 will be Astor Place, the latest in their series of fragrances celebrating New York City neighborhoods. The new scent was inspired by Tony Rosenthal’s “Alamo”, a rotating sculpture at the corner of Lafayette Street and 8th Street known locally as the “Astor Place Cube”.

T-Shirt Hell Says Goodbye…Again

T-Shirt Hell, a site dedicated to producing the most controversially funny clothing on the Web, will be officially closing its doors on February 16, 2009. Despite popular layoffs around the world due to the recessed economy, site/company owner Sunshine Megatron (formerly Aaron Landau Schwarz) assures newsletter readers that his decision to close the company has nothing to do with finances. Though they've admittedly seen something of downturn in sales lately, it's not nearly enough to run them out of business.

Estee Lauder Pure White Linen Pink Coral ~ new fragrance

Estee Lauder will launch Pure White Linen Pink Coral, a new flanker fragrance for 2006’s Pure White Linen (and see also: Pure White Linen Light Breeze).

An utterly feminine, tender and peaceful fragrance that gently sweeps over the senses in soft waves, capturing the feeling of being by the ocean at daybreak.

The Beauty of the Soliflore

At first glance, soliflores — fragrances replicating the scent of a single flower — might not seem worth much attention. Why spend money on something you can smell for real in the garden when there are so many interesting compositions out there? Where’s the art in that?

Mexx Black ~ new fragrances

Coming in March from Mexx will be Mexx Black, a new duo of fragrances for men and women:

Elegant and trendy. Smart and sexy. That is “Black” - MEXX Black.

Mexx Black Woman ~ a fruity floral with peony, ginger blossom, freesia, marigold, black currant, apricot, litchi, pear, white cedar, sandalwood, amber and vanilla. Available in 15, 30 and 50 ml Eau de Toilette or 30 ml Eau de Parfum, and in matching body products.

Ty Controversy Invades White House

As if the world doesn’t have enough problems as it is, the newest wrinkle in the fairy tale dream that is the Obama family is the hullaballoo over the Ty Company’s decision to release two new, soft bean-bag dolls. Word on the street has it that the First Lady is violently opposed to “Marvelous Malia” and “Sweet Sasha” making their debut as the newest Ty Girlz. Michelle Obama feels the sale of such items is an invasion of the girls' privacy. The dolls in question have large dark eyes, soft brown skin and their long dark hair is tied back. For those out of the loop, the Ty Girlz brand is a blatant take off on the infamous Bratz dolls.

Nina Ricci to sue makers of Twilight

As many of you guessed…

The Nina Ricci brand (Puig-Prestige Division) says it is taking legal action against the makers of a new fragrance called Twilight, which has been released in a red perfume bottle identical to the Nina by Nina Ricci flacon (pictured).

Bunch o’ limited edition collector bottles 2009, part 1

More limited edition collector fragrance bottles, with the usual disclaimers: in most of these cases, the juice is unchanged, just the bottle is “special” (or not, as the case may be), and some of these may not be available in the US.

Coming in February from Jean Paul Gaultier, wearable solid compacts for Classique (55€) and Le Mâle (45€), shown at left. (via vogue.fr)

Beauty Treatment Review: The Salon at Wynn Encore Resort, Las Vegas

Wynn’s Encore Resort in Las Vegas offers an exciting new make-up service. It is not simply a make-up application, but an actual lesson. Jennifer — my tall, blonde, well dressed (and perfectly made-up) beautician — greets me in the super swank, very elegant Salon which looks out over the lush Wynn property and offers floor to ceiling views of the city. You will find the Salon so large and airy you feel good just being here, especially if you are lucky enough to be pampered by the expert staff.

In Praise of Cultural and Historical Ignorance.

If I were not in the process of beginning a comprehensive book on fashion in the “Wild West” from about 1850 – 1910, it is possible I might not be as disgusted with the pathetically ignorant remarks made by Edward Vaughn, the head of the Alabama NAACP.
